Counting manipulatives are needed to introduce toddlers to the relationships between numbers. These introductory math activities are designed to let your toddler become familiar with MathSticks by matching the number value of the sticks to the number line. Each of these activities will take less than 5 minutes to complete.
#1 Starting Activity
Allow children to measure the sticks to match with units on the number line. See the photo example where the 5 stick is measured to match 5 units or 5 inches on the number line. Give your child the opportunity to measure and match sticks.
Whole display is on the board to show counting by ones. Have your child say the numbers to match the sticks.
Skip count by twos, starting at two. Have your child say the numbers to match the sticks (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12)
